Independent judiciaries, other institutions of liberal democracy, as well civil liberties media freedom are being undermined, coupled with human rights dignity certain groups curtailed or even violated. In these difficult political legal circumstances, non-state actors, such interest groups, face many challenges. By placing our Polish context, we fill gap current literature situation that democratic backsliding. We base analyses new survey data collected from 2017–2018, conducted within Comparative Interest Group Survey.

Facing Up to the Democratic recession
The year 2014 marked the fortieth anniversary of Portugal’s Revolution of the Carnations, which inaugurated what Samuel P. Huntington dubbed the “third wave” of global democratization. Any assessment of the state of global democracy today must begin by recognizing—even marveling at—the durability of this historic transformation. When the third wave began in 1974, only about 30 percent of the wo...
متن کاملBorel Actions of Polish Groups
We show that a Borel action of a Polish group on a standard Borel space is Borel isomorphic to a continuous action of the group on a Polish space, and we apply this result to three aspects of the theory of Borel actions of Polish groups: universal actions, invariant probability measures, and the Topological Vaught Conjecture. We establish the existence of universal actions for any given Polish ...
متن کاملBorel Subgroups of Polish Groups
We study three classes of subgroups of Polish groups: Borel subgroups, Polishable subgroups, and maximal divisible subgroups. The membership of a subgroup in each of these classes allows one to assign to it a rank, that is, a countable ordinal, measuring in a natural way complexity of the subgroup. We prove theorems comparing these three ranks and construct subgroups with prescribed ranks. In p...
متن کاملUniversal Subgroups of Polish Groups
Given a class C of subgroups of a topological group G, we say that a subgroup H ∈ C is a universal C subgroup of G if every subgroup K ∈ C is a continuous homomorphic pre-image of H. Such subgroups may be regarded as complete members of C with respect to a natural pre-order on the set of subgroups of G. We show that for any locally compact Polish group G, the countable power G has a universal K...

The Society has several Special Interest Groups which organise meetings and other activities to enable the exchange of information and views within specific areas of meteorology. These are informal groups of professionals interested in specific technical areas of meteorology. The groups are primarily a way of communicating at a specialist level and are organized and often financed by the group ...
